17 month family child custody battle
I have just finished a 17 month highly complex vicious family court battle with my ex husband, I could not afford a solicitor and this time around although I qualified for Legal aid through domestic violence and abuse I didn’t qualify with the means based conditions.
I looked into being represented by a barrister direct and came across Clerksroom. Sam Morgan answers any emails or calls instantly and has put me in touch with a few barristers, namely Ella Cantor-Freedman, Stephanie Heijdra and Farah Stehrenberger, all outstanding women who represented me exceptionally well and related to my situation not just as a client but as a mother.
For the final four day fact finding hearing I was represented by Philip Bowen. Philip went above and beyond and even calling me late the night before the first day of the hearing for two minutes just to reassure me, his cross examination was outstanding, he quickly made his way through an extensive bundle and knew exactly what parts to cross examine my ex husband on, he carried himself professionally and he conducted himself with outstanding demeanor while interacting with court staff and opposing counsel. After my previous experience with the Barrister I instructed through Clerksroom I was hesitant/worried about finding another Barrister for my upcoming Childrens hearings.
After seeing how professionally and diligently the clerks at Clerksroom handled my complaint I decided to give them another try as the previous Barrister's handling of my case was no fault of theirs.
I was recommended Stephanie Heijdra, before proceeding I did some research (which was all extremely positive) and so far she has lived upto every word.
I have now used Stephanie for two hearings, not only is she able to get a quick grasp of the case and opposition but she actually fights your case until the very last minute. Stephanie is also a lovely, empathetic person who understands what you are going through emotionally and would send me messages to see how I'm doing. She is very approachable and friendly but at the same time when she needs to fight your case she does not back down. Things are now starting to move in the right direction for me and my kids. I am happy that I engaged Barrister Stephanie Heijdra for my two days final hearing regarding the Child Access matter.
I have taken more expensive Barristers for my matrimonial and child access matters in the past; however, I was not pleased with the results.
Most of the Barristers wanted to be nice in front of the judge and the court rather than the client, however, Stephanie fully respected my views and was always approachable.

Since the first time I came in contact with Clerksroom and Sam Morgan about 18 months ago. Sam has been excellent, professional, kind, considerate and always willing to assist. Sam is one person you can rely on. Once he says to you "leave it with me, I will see to it" be sure that he will definitely see to it more especially taking into consideration your affordability/costs. My recent court hearing which my previous fantastic barrister was unable to present me due to other commitments, I was worried of the thought of having a different barrister taking up my case and immediately contacted Sam, as usual, he said that I should leave it with him, within 20 minutes he came back to me with barrister's name. I made my enquiry online and was sent 3 different barristers. I didn't know who to choose so phoned Sam and he pointed me to the one he thought fit my tricky ex. Stephanie Heijdra was great and to the point. I had a FDHR booked and got cold feet about self representing. She got my exes lawyers on the phone and negotiated hard a settlement. By the day of the first direction hearing we therefore had an agreement that just needed approval. She was on the phone negotiating throughout the process and working hard to get me what I needed and wanted. So grateful I didn't have to be strung along to another hearing and everything was sorted and agreed. I put that down to her as me and the ex are toxic and beyond talking or agreeing anything. She was frank and told me what a judge is most likely to decide. When I insisted I wanted something she was trying to talk me out of She listened hard and delivered. The agreement reached was a tiny compromise on my part but I got everything I wanted out of the arrangement- surname change, live in order, and contact on fair terms. The ex got a set weekend and flexibility to change if he needed which is what he wanted as he lives overseas. So grateful I don't need another hearing as I find court so stressful on top of being a working parent."
